American Idol's 10th Season closed with a bang.  It scored a 9.2 adults 18-49 rating and 29.3 million viewers.  That was up 12% for adults 18-49 and 21% for total audience compared to last year’s finale 8.2 adults 18-49 rating and 24.2 million average viewers.  Also it was the first time in five years that ratings for an American Idol finale topped the previous season’s.

Considering the obstacles Idol had to overcome this season, its ratings triumph is amazing.  This season proved to be the best in recent memory.  Many factors contributed to this; the level of talent, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and adjustments to the format.  This made for a fresh take on the singing competition and it proved to be just what it needed.  My prediction is American Idol will sit comfortably in the fall schedule for FOX for many years to come.
