American Idol Season 10 FINALE Up vs. Last Season

Scoreboard FOX ABC CBS Uni NBC CW
Adults 18-49: Rating/Share 9.2/x 2.3/6 1.7/5 1.5/4 1.2/3 0.4/1
Adults 18-34: Rating/Share 7.0/x 2.1/6 1.2/4 1.6/5 0.8/3 0.4/1
Total Viewers (million) 29.285 6.325 6.658 3.821 4.203 1.047

American Idol's 10th Season closed with a bang.  It scored a 9.2 adults 18-49 rating and 29.3 million viewers.  That was up 12% for adults 18-49 and 21% for total audience compared to last year’s finale 8.2 adults 18-49 rating and 24.2 million average viewers.  Also it was the first time in five years that ratings for an American Idol finale topped the previous season’s.

Considering the obstacles Idol had to overcome this season, its ratings triumph is amazing.  This season proved to be the best in recent memory.  Many factors contributed to this; the level of talent, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and adjustments to the format.  This made for a fresh take on the singing competition and it proved to be just what it needed.  My prediction is American Idol will sit comfortably in the fall schedule for FOX for many years to come.

Monday TV Ratings

Adults 18-49: Rating/Share3.4/92.6/71.8/51.6/41.4/40.2/1

As you can see above, Univision beat NBC in the coveted adults 18-49 ratings. This has been a trend this spring.  Dancing with the stars led the night with a 4.6 rating and The Bachelorette premier tied last seasons with a 2.8 adults 18-49. I believe ABC is happy with these ratings considering many shows have been trending downward in this seasons ratings.

On an interesting but maybe even sad note, Minute To Win It received a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating which is the same that the season finale of Chuck received last week. Nonetheless Chuck has been renewed and will come back for a 5th and final season.

Celebrity Apprentice on NBC down vs. last year

This past Sunday night was the season finale of Celebrity Apprentice. I must admit, I have been watching all season long and have been enjoying the drama, the crazy, and the cool. One thing I do not understand though, is why the ratings are lower than the last installment of the show.

This years finale ratings averaged 2.9   18-49 , that is down 15% from last springs finale. Maybe we can attribute this decline partly to the Billboard Music Awards being a direct competition and scoring a 2.9 as well on ABC.  This is even more interesting because this award show took a 5 year hiatus but in its return actually gained 6% in its ratings versus its last showcase in 2006.

Celebrity Apprentice definitely took a hit from the Billboard Awards but this season has been a tad bit lower in ratings than the previous season even without this added competition.

"The Voice" Starts Strong for NBC

Howdy readers!
So the long awaited premier of The Voice on NBC did really well! I have been following the development of this show since alternative media folks at NBC acquired the program. I followed every announcement of  a celebrity mentor and have been hoping this would be a HIT for nbc.

The Voice was strong, averaging 5.1 adults 18-49 rating, which led NBC to top the nights 18-49 ratings. It was NBC’s strongest series premiere since 2009′s The Jay Leno Show’s 5.3 rating following 2008′s American Gladiator’s 5.9 rating.
